Description
He has heard that he will not be appointed to the public health institute, given the post at Rewa or allowed to exchange to another regiment at Bangalore, neither has he had any reply to his application for DD Cunningham's post. He surveys his prospects and says that if he stays in the Indian Medical Service he will be separated from his family and that if Manson cannot persuade the Secretary of State for India to insist on a malaria inquiry he is willing to work on at reduced pay, he will have to retire.
