Description
Correspondence files and reports created while Peter Piot was working at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp. Piot became Professor of Microbiology and Public Health and a head of the Department at the Institute in 1981 and worked at the Institute until 1992. The correspondence and reports chiefly relate to the HIV/AIDS work that he embarked on from 1983 onwards and includes various correspondence with international colleagues, activists and groups on the epidemic along with news and reports from the research projects that he helped to coordinate in Nairobi, Kenya and Kinshasa, DRC. They also reflect Piot's role as director of the WHO Collaborating Center on HIV/AIDS at the Institute and contains reports and material relating to HIV surveillance. Reports include research carried out by him and his colleagues on HIV/AIDS and STDs in sub-Saharan Africa and a report on the HIV/AIDS by the Institute for the WHO.
