Description
The field notes and research relate to Peter Piot's involvement in the International Medical Commission to investigate an unknown haemorrhagic fever in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), that was later named the Ebola virus. Piot was an active fieldworker in the Yambuku district, the epicentre of the epidemic and is reflected within the records with epidemiological surveys and distribution maps along with clinical records of those who were infected. The file contains a notebook, meeting reports, correspondence, project inventories and final reports by the Commission. Also included is supplementary press cuttings of the epidemic, articles and teaching note and lecture about Ebola and related haemorrhagic fevers.
