Description Correspondence and related material regarding historical research conducted by Virginia Berridge whilst based at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. The correspondentss are predominantly with other researchers in the field of the history of drugs and alcohol along with various archives and societies in the UK and abroad. Majority of the correspondence relate to historical research on 19th century opium use and the historical use of narcotics in England which resulted in her joint publication with Griffith Edwards, 'Opium and the People' and a number of articles that appeared in journals such as the Lancet, British Journal of Addiction and the Journal of Social Policy.

Other topics of discussion include correspondence with academic journals such as Journal of Drug Issues; Bulletin for the Social History of Medicine and Journal of the History of Medicine. They relate to submissions of articles; request for reviews; information on subscription and conferences for historical societies such as the British Society for the History of Science, Society for the Social History of Medicine.
