Title
'Clause 28 Correspondence'
Date
1987-1995
Description
Papers relate to the Section 28 (or Clause 28) of the Local Government Act 1988 caused the controversial addition of Section 2A that sought to ban the promotion of homosexuality in schools. Project SIGMA openly lobbied members of Parliament against the amendment with a letter writing campaign and the file includes responses from MPs such as Chris Smith, Tony Benn, Harriet Harman and Jenny Stringer. Material also includes newsletters from OLGA (Organisation for Lesbian and Gay Action), leaflets, memoranda, photocopies of the legislation and transcripts from parliamentary sessions and a list of parliamentary members. Later material relates to the proposed Mayhew Amendments trying to make anal penetration illegal where SIGMA Research was used as evidence to back the amendment which SIGMA Research strongly opposed.
