AdminHistoryThe Collaborative Research Support Programme was established in the late 1970s with the aim to increase long-term support to developing countries and conduct institutional development and research. Several US institutions engaged in work overseas and focused on research and training and program development. All CRSP's have a Management Entity, Technical Board, External Evaluation panel and Principle Investigators (PI) who work with scientists overseas.

The CRSP Nutrition and Intake Function programme was centrally managed by the University of California, Berekley. Its aim was to examine the consequences of less than severe malnutrition for five human functions - resistance to disease, reproductive competence, cognitive development, work performance and activity. It had programmes in Kenya, Mexico and Egypt. Philip Payne was a member of the Nutrition CRSP External Evaluation panel.
