Description | Public education campaign and evaluation material collected to document HIV/AIDS public education campaigns within Europe initially as part of the European Commission 'Concerted Action Programme: Assessing HIV/AIDS Preventive Stategies' (1987-1989) and continued through the AIDS Public Education In Europe: Information Exchange project. The collection contains documents gathered from member states and non-member states (Austria, Belgium, Czechslovakia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and United Kingdom).
The material was originally arranged in file boxes by country, which contained material used in that particular country for various educational campaigns chiefly targeting the general public but also including different groups such as gay men, drug users, sex workers and young people. The campaign material collected is diverse with typically a selection of material produced from national, regional and voluntary organisations in the form of leaflets, pamphlets, booklets, books, reports and press releases along with press coverage and epidemiological information on the prevalence of HIV/AIDS within each country. The evaluation material generally consists of interview and fieldwork notes from the LSHTM investigators, Kaye Wellings, Becky Field and Claire Gibbons; attitudes surveys and data sets and evaluative reports and journals relating to each particular country.
Much of the European country material is in English or can be found in translation (particularly true for Swedish, Netherlands and Polish boxes) or have been clearly labelled with creating organisation and dated when acquired. |
