WMW Haffkine worked in India on vaccines against cholera and plague. In 1902, an accidential contamination of some tubes led to a number of people dying of tetanus and Haffkine was blamed. It was proved that the accident was not his fault but he was nearly ruined. A number of individuals, including Ross and WJ Simpson, fought for him in the press and got the Indian Government's decision reversed in 1907.
