Description
Correspondence, memoranda, circulars, minutes and reports relating to HIV/AIDS research. Subject matters include the organisation and attendance of AIDS Conference, such as IX Conference on AIDS and the VIII International Conference on AIDS/III STD World Congress, Amsterdam, 30-31 January 1992; Peter Piot's appointment as a consultant for the Global Programme on AIDS (GPO), World Health Organisation (WHO) beginning in August 1992; the discontinuation of Projet SIDA in Kinshasa, Zaire. Other correspondence with colleagues relate to journal articles, invitations to conferences and media appearance, requests and letters of reference.
Correspondees include: Jonathan Mann (1947-1998), physician and WHO administrator; William Heyward, Director of Projet SIDA; Dr Kevin de Cock; Dr Michael Merson, Director of GPO, WHO; Dr Lars Olaf Kallings, WHO; The Lancet; Professor J Desmyter and Dr Robin Ryder. Along with letters and facsimiles received there are also newsletters, reports and notes including a typescript report entitled 'The Swiss HIV Cohort Study Evaluation' by Donald P Francis and Peter Piot, October 22-25 1991 and a report entitled 'AIDS Knowledge before and after health lessons in male workers of two Zairian factories by Marc Vandbruaene et al (including Peter Piot).
