Description
The Initiative, jointly funded by the Medical Research Council, Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Home Office, Department of Health Social Security and Scottish Home and Health Department, was set up to examine research being undertaken on addiction and misuse of controlled drugs. Virginia Berridge served as the scientific secretary of the group and was commissioned to oversee the collection of position papers relating to the subject and write a report on interviews, meetings and research she conducted on UK based and international parties involved and related to the research of drug misuse including UK government departments and international organisations such as the World Health Organisations and the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
